Public Library Completes Updates To Enhance Visitor Experience

SMITHFIELD – The Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield (PLJCS) has unveiled a new look and several enhancements designed to create a more welcoming and user-friendly space for the community. Visitors will notice a brand new logo that reflects the library’s commitment to growth and community, along with a fresh coat of paint and new furniture that adds warmth and comfort to the space.

These updates mark an exciting step forward in making the library an even more inviting destination for learning, enrichment, exploration, and connection.

In addition to aesthetic improvements, the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield has made key functional updates to improve accessibility and usability. The adult fiction collection has been thoughtfully reorganized to create a new seating area, providing a comfortable spot for visitors to relax with a book or meet with friends.

New signage and wayfinding elements have also been installed throughout the library, making it easier for patrons to navigate the space and find what they need.

“When the Library received a generous donation from the Smithfield Women’s Club in late 2023, the idea to modernize our furniture and study areas started to form. While it took several months to complete the renovation, we are pleased with the outcome. Feedback from patrons has been overwhelmingly positive!” said PLJCS Library Director Johnnie Pippin.

Another facility update includes adding a new study room, which offers a dedicated quiet space for anyone needing a focused work environment. The study room is located on the second floor of the library along with other reservable meeting and work spaces.

The library currently has four reservable meeting spaces available for community members. Community members are encouraged to visit the Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield and experience these exciting improvements firsthand.
