Railroad Safety Crossing Blitz Wednesday

CSX Police and local law enforcement agencies will be participating in a Crossing Blitz on Wednesday, June 3rd from 11am until 1pm.

Law enforcement officers will be handing out educational materials to motorists about railroad crossing safety at both the Peedin Road rail crossings in Smithfield and the Ricks Road rail crossing in Selma.

CSX Police ImageSo far in 2015, there have been 25 grade crossing collisions and 13 known incidents of rail trespassing in North Carolina, including an April 27th collision in Four Oaks between an Amtrak train and a passenger car.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, NC Highway Patrol, Selma Police Department, and Smithfield Police Department, will assist the CSX Police Department with the Crossing Blitz, which is being held in conjunction with the international event, ILCAD. The International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) focuses on educational measures and the promotion of safe behavior at and around railroad highway grade crossings.  This public awareness campaign activity will occur June 3rd in 43 countries throughout the world.
