RALEIGH – South Johnston High School graduate Reagan Williford recently completed a summer internship in the office of Representative Howard Penny. The daughter of Eddie and Jennifer Williford, Reagan is currently attending UNC Chapel Hill, where she is double majoring in Exercise and Sport Science and Psychology.

Reagan’s involvement in legislative processes began not as an intern but as a delegate of the North Carolina Youth Legislative Assembly (YLA). This initial interest in the legislative process led her to interview for a leadership position within the YLA. Selected by her peers, Reagan served on the leadership team, and in her final year, she held the prestigious role of Speaker of the House for the 2022-2023 YLA Session.

In addition to her YLA experience, Reagan also served as a page for Representative Larry Strickland. This comprehensive engagement with various programs offered by the General Assembly facilitated a smooth transition into her internship with Representative Penny’s office.

Representative Penny expressed his admiration for Reagan’s dedication, stating, “It has been an honor and a privilege to have Reagan serve as an intern in my office this summer. Her active participation in the General Assembly’s educational programs made her transition into this role seamless. I hope that all students will take advantage of the numerous opportunities the General Assembly offers.”

With her extensive experience as a page and her leadership within the YLA, Representative Penny believes that Reagan has the potential to one day represent the people of Johnston County.
