Red Cross Assisting Family Displaced By Fire

Fire-Pecan-Lane-2The Red Cross is assisting a mother and  her son displaced by a house fire on Tuesday.

Around 9:00am, Jean Traywick was exiting the front door of her home at 337 Pecan Lane, off Cornwallis Road, to walk her dog, according to Johnston County Fire Marshal Kevin Hubbard.

Traywick told authorities she heard a “cracking” sound around the side of her home. When she went to investigate she saw smoke and flames.  She went back into the home, awoke her son, and they both fled to a neighbors home to call 911.

Hubbard said the fire started on the back porch of the home but the cause has not been determined.

The Clayton, Cleveland, Garner and Wilson’s Mills Fire Departments responded to the scene to extinguish the flames. Damage to the home and its contents were estimated at $35,000. The Red Cross responded to assist the Traywick family.  The property was owned by Gail Coats.

No injuries were reported.
