Register Of Deed’s Shred Event A Big Success

Louise Barnes of Selma attends the Johnston County Register of Deeds Shred Event Saturday in Smithfield.

A large crowd turned out Saturday for the annual Public Shred Event held by the Johnston County Register of Deeds Office and Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive.

“I want to thank all of the people who came out to the event,” Olive said. “It was a great and successful shred event.  For the last years, I have been honored to be able to provide this service to the citizens of Johnston County.  If we have helped prevent identity theft for even one person then it was well worth it. I will continue to be an advocate to help prevent identity theft.”

The event was held in the parking lot of Carlie C’s IGA on North Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield.  It marks the 8th time in nine yearsthe event has been held.

Hundreds of people brought out old files, receipts, bank and credit card statements and returned checks to shred.

The event was co-sponsored by WTSB Radio AM-1090 / FM 105.5, WMPM Radio AM 1270, InterState Outdoor, Carlie C’s IGA and the Local Government Federal Credit Union.
