BENSON – An elderly Benson man was scammed over a two year period.
The victim previously used Geek Squad for repairs to his electronic devices. Approximately two years ago, when the victim received a scam text message from someone pretending to be with Geek Squad he replied. The scammer indicated he owned the company $400 for prior work and he paid the bill.
This opened the door for scammers to routinely contact the victim and claim he owed money for various services.
The trusting senior citizen didn’t think twice about paying his bills, even though the bills were bogus.
From 2022 to 2024 the victim unknowingly paid the scammers a total of $40,000 for repairs and services he thought were legitimate.
A family member recently discovered the scam and notified law enforcement.
Every time I hear about our elderly being scammed and stolen from, I want to cry. The fake Geek Squad scammers are in India. Our government knows who and where they are. Hopefully President Trump can put a bug in India’s government ear to either put these criminals in prison or suffer the consequences. It’s ridiculous that this is still allowed to happen.
the real ones are from India
@John That is most of the problem. US companies have outsourced their customer service to India. And more often than not, the legit workers AND the criminal scammers are operating in the same building.
The scammers are running many different scams. Geek Squad, Microsoft, Amazon, PayPal, banks…..you name it, they’re doing it. Then there are the Jamaicans doing the Publishers Clearing House scam. Something has got to be done.
What’s ridiculous is, no matter the age, that he spent $40,000.00 in repairs on a computer.
