BENSON – An internet outage that impacted customers near Benson was reportedly caused by thieves.
On Monday, crews with Brightspeed, who were working to determine the cause of a service interruption, discovered over 240 feet of copper lines had been stolen from utility poles along NC 242 about six miles south of Benson.
A Brightspeed representative told the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office it would cost approximately $30,000 to repair the damages.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the larceny.
$30K to hang 240ft of line?!?!? No wonder Brightspeed is continually ranked as one of the worst buys for ISPs.
