Retiring Commissioner Receives Order Of The Long Leaf Pine

At a private retirement reception with friends and family Thursday night, retiring Johnston County Commissioner DeVan Barbour, III of Benson was presented The Order of the Long Leaf Pine by his son, DeVan Barbour, IV.

The honor bookends 31 years of service to the community by Mr. Barbour that started as a Town Commissioner in Benson, continued as a member of the Johnston County Board of Education, and concluded as a three term County Commissioner. Barbour will officially retire from the Board of Commissioners Monday morning.

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is the most prestigious award presented by the Governor’s Office to individuals who have a record of extraordinary service to the state.
