Reward Offered In Hate Crime

KKK-Blurred-FISmithfield Police announced Monday they are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the persons who spray painted a racial epithet on an African American woman’s car.

Police said the incident took place on the night of June 24th on Kay Drive in the Johnston Court Apartment Complex, off US301 South.

The woman said someone spray painted the words “N****r” and “KKK” on the side of her SUV.  Police are treating the incident as a hate crime.

The incident occurred the same day as the Vigil for Charleston was held in Smithfield, an event attended by 150 community members.

Police hope the reward will promote someone with information to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Ronald Johnson at 919-989-1072 or the Smithfield Police Tip Line at 919-989-8835.
