Road conditions are improving across Johnston County but slick spots still remain on some secondary roadways, particularly in shaded areas.
On Friday, a car skidded on ice on Vinson Road just outside of Clayton and struck a home. No injuries were reported.
Thursday, a patch of ice on Interstate 95 near Keen Road in Four Oaks caused a crash that shutdown northbound lanes for an hour. A semi skidded on the ice and stopped on the right shoulder. A moving truck and tanker were side-by-side when they made contact while avoiding the first truck. Both trucks jack-knifed. There were no injuries. I-95 was reopened after the NC DOT brought sand, salt and brine to the area then used a plow to scrape the ice off the interstate.
Officials still caution drivers to use caution on secondary roadways until all the snow and ice is melted away. Photos by John Payne
