Road Work May Have Contributed To Crash

At least three people were sent to the hospital following a near head-on  collision Friday afternoon. Emergency crews responded to the accident on Highway 42 East of Buffalo Road just after 12 noon.

A driver said she was traveling eastbound on Highway 42 and hit a bump in the roadway. She hit her brakes then skidded into the path of a westbound SUV that had just crossed a second bump in the highway.

Occupants in both vehicles were transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

WTSB News has learned the NC Department of Transportation received a complaint on March 19th about a dip along that section of Highway 42. Whether it was the exact one that may have contributed to Friday’s crash is uncertain.

The dip was caused by milling of the roadway in preparation for new turn lanes being installed for a new subdivision.   Some drivers said Friday if you cross the NC 42 dip faster than 15mph you can expect a surprisingly rough ride.
