JOHNSTON COUNTY – A dump truck driver working overnight on the NC 42 West widening project drove away with his bed up following dumping a load of debris near the Cleveland Road and NC 42 West intersection.
The raised bed snagged telecommunications lines, ripping them from power poles and leaving them draped across the roadway and at least two vehicles, including the dump truck.
Duke Energy confirmed the lines were telecommunications lines, not power transmission lines, and posed no serious shock threat.
The incident happened shortly past 1:00am today (Wednesday) leaving downed lines lying across the roadway into the morning rush hour with Cleveland Road, west of NC 42, still closed.
Authorities gave no estimated time for the road to reopen.
