Smithfield Police are looking for a suspect following the robbery of a 56 year-old man on Thursday.
Around 2:00am the victim said he was in the parking lot of a business on Market Street at I-95 when he was approached by a known acquaintance. The suspect physically assaulted the victim then took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing.
The victim was not injured.
Police Captain R. Sheppard said investigators have identified a person of interest in the case and are currently looking for the individual for questioning. Sheppard said the suspect targeted the victim and the crime was not random.
