Ronald Johnson May Address Censures

SMITHFIELD – Johnston County Board of Education member Ronald Johnson may soon be allowed to address three recent censures. During the Dec. 13 meeting, newly elected board member Kevin Donovan requested their attorney investigate the process for Mr. Johnson to present new facts about the previous censures. There was no opposition to the request.

Johnson was censured for allegedly secretly recording other board members during closed door meetings, sending inappropriate text messages during a board meeting about a female school employee, and asking a school principal to modify the assignment for two special education students as a favor.

The board will be given a report by their attorney, Katie Cornetto with the Poyner Spruill law firm, at the January 2023 meeting on the process for Mr. Johnson to present new facts regarding the allegations.

      • @CaptainObvious: He has responded. He admitted to violating policy and making a secret recording. He said he would resign. Then he said he wouldn’t. He admitted to sending the texts. He accepted dismissal from the PD without a word or protesting his innocence (which tells me he’s 100% guilty of the charges) His 15 minutes are up. An “honorable” man would have stepped down a while ago

          DUH.

        • Just like Dickie Braswell stepped down? Have you called for him to step down since he was arrested? He hasn’t made a single statement about his situation and continues to serve on the board of commissioners which is a huge slap in the face for the victim and the rest of joco!

          • @JenR: I completely agree that Braswell should resign. You’re right — the fact the he hasn’t publicly been shouting his innocence tells me all I need to know. Unfortunately, 50,000 JoCo voters have no problem with an accused child molester being on the board — they re-elected him. The JoCo GOP has made it clear what is (and isn’t) important. #ReapWhatYouVote

  1. Dude was just trying to get to the bottom of the corruption on the Board. Sure, his specific methods in this particular instance were poor, unorthodox, and unwarranted. But hey, Mr. Johnson, if you need some recording equipment, there are people around who let you borrow some. These people love hiding things from parents: Money, LBGT propaganda, CRT curriculum, and their particular opinions of parents and students behind closed doors.

    • @Brett: You forgot to mention that his method was “a direct violation of the oath he took.” I wouldn’t trust this man any further than I could throw him

  2. He didn’t protest being FIRED FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. That tells me all I need to know. He should be off the board & working at Game Stop.
