SALEMBURG – A Sampson County deputy sheriff shot and killed an individual during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon. At 1:09pm, the deputy stopped a pickup truck on Laurel Lake Road at Lakewood School Road. As the deputy was approaching the vehicle, he reportedly encountered an armed suspect.
The deputy shot the suspect. Life saving measures were initiated, however the suspect died at the scene.
The NC State Bureau of Investigation has responded to conduct the investigation into the officer involved shooting, which is standard protocol.
The name of the person killed and the deputy’s name are being withheld at this time.
