Glenda Boyette of Clinton in Sampson County become the state’s latest big Powerball winner, claiming a $200,000 prize.
In Saturday’s drawing, Boyette beats odds of 1 in 913,000 as her lucky numbers matched four of the white balls and the Powerball. Because she had purchased a $3 Power Play ticket, the $50,000 prize jumped to $200,000 with the drawing of the 4x multiplier. After the required tax withholdings, she received $138,500.
She bought her ticket at Strickland’s on Maxwell Road in Stedman.
This Saturday’s Powerball jackpot has grown to $136 million as an annuity or $87.8 million as a lump sum.
Ticket sales from games like Powerball made it possible for the lottery to raise more than half a billion dollars for the State of North Carolina last year.
