Appointed To Key Committees
RALEIGH – State Senator Benton Sawrey (R – Johnston) was sworn in earlier this month to begin his second term serving the citizens of North Carolina Senate District 10. A lifelong resident of Johnston County, Senator Sawrey reaffirmed his commitment to delivering results and advocating for the conservative values and unique needs of his community, in Raleigh.
“It’s a great privilege to represent the people of Johnston County for another term,” said Senator Sawrey, “Our county is a remarkable blend of rural traditions and suburban growth, and I am dedicated to ensuring that every voice is heard and every need addressed. Together, we will keep Johnston County a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”
In his first term, Senator Sawrey championed policies that protect family values, bolster small businesses, and preserve Johnston County’s agricultural heritage while addressing the challenges of rapid suburban growth. His efforts have focused on improving infrastructure, supporting educational opportunities, and reducing unnecessary regulatory and tax burdens. A major highlight includes a repeal of North Carolina’s privilege tax on workers and implementation of a plan that will lead to significant reductions in the state personal income tax over the next several years.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Senate Leader Phil Berger (R–Rockingham) announced that Senator Sawrey will serve as co-Chairman of both the Senate Health Care Committee and Senate Appropriations for Health and Human Services Committee. Senator Sawrey was also appointed as a Member of the Committees on Appropriations/Base Budget, Elections, Judiciary, and Rules & Operations of the Senate for the 2025-26 legislative biennium.
“I am honored to serve as a Chairman of the Senate Health Care Committee and to contribute to these other important committees,” said Senator Sawrey, “These appointments provide a tremendous opportunity to address critical issues such as improving health care access and keeping services affordable, ensuring responsible budgeting, and safeguarding our elections. I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver meaningful results for Johnston County and all of North Carolina.”
