The NC SBI Bomb Unit responded to a home on North Johnson Road, off Galilee Road near Smithfield and about a mile from West Smithfield Elementary School around Noon on Thursday.
A homeowner was in the process of tearing down an old barn when they discovered blasting caps inside.
The homeowner alerted the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office who stood by at the scene until the SBI Bomb Unit could arrive.
Chief Deputy Bengie Gaddis said about 30 blasting caps were safely removed from the barn by the Bomb Unit and taken away to a safe location so they could be proposed disposed.
Gaddis said there was no criminal investigation. The scene was cleared after a few hours. JoCoReport.com Photos
