A South Carolina man has been indicted by a Johnston County Grand Jury for exploiting an elderly 93 year-old Johnston County woman. It happened in January 2019.
Authorities said the elderly victim was at her home on Highway 39 North on January 24, 2019 when she heard a knock on the door. She said two men told her the shingles on her roof had been ripped off during a recent storm and they had repaired the shingles and the damaged roof. The men then demanded the victim pay $3,500.
The victim never hired the men to perform the work but was deceived into paying for the non-existent repairs.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office was able to develop leads in the case and on March 2, 2020 a Grand Jury in Smithfield indicted 36 year-old Eddie Anthony Sherlock of North Augusta, SC. Sherlock was indicted for exploiting the disabled/elderly and obtaining property by false pretenses.
