SMITHFIELD – The Town of Smithfield is alerting residents to a recent scam involving fraudulent emails that falsely appear to be from the Smithfield Planning Department. These emails may reference invoices or request payments and are designed to look official.
Officials said the Town does not issue invoices via email for planning services or any other departments.

While the scam emails may closely resemble our official communications, they are being sent from unauthorized email addresses that differ subtly from legitimate ones. All recipients are urged to carefully verify the sender’s address and avoid clicking on links or opening
attachments in suspicious messages.
If you receive such an email, do not respond. Instead, forward it to info@smithfield-nc.com and delete it immediately.
The Town is actively working with relevant authorities to investigate this matter.
