SMITHFIELD – The Johnston County Board of Education met in special session Tuesday to begin the process of filling a vacant seat previously held by Ronald Johnson.
Johnson was convicted last Friday on criminal charges and sentenced to prison. He had previously won reelection to a four year term in November 2024.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the school board agreed to seek applications for the vacancy through 12:00 Noon on January 31, 2025.
Interested candidates must be a resident of District 7, submit a resume, and agree to a background check.
