Johnston County School Board member Donna White of Clayton has announced she will run forthe NC House District 26 seat currently held by Rep. Leo Daughtry of Smithfield. Daughtry announced Oct. 13th he would not seek re-election in 2016.

White made the announcement live on AM-1090 WTSB Tuesday afternoon.

“I have decided to run for the District 26 seat for the NC House of Representatives,” White said. “I was the campaign manager for that seat in the 80’s and 90’s for my dear friend and former Representative Billy Creech. I have observed the diplomatic and caring way that our current Representative, my friend, Mr. Leo Daughtry has nurtured that seat for the last several terms.”

“Since Representative Daughtry has announced his retirement for next November and with the filing period for that seat opening on December 1st, I have prayed and consulted God, my family, and friends and I believe that it is time for me to take to Raleigh the skill and experience that I have exhibited as a current member of the Johnston County Board of Education.”

White said she would continue to serve in her current office on the school board until her term ended in November 2016.  She has been a member of the board of education since 2004.
