With less than a week until the start of the school year, Johnston County Schools is working hard to fill vacancies in various positions.
Chief Personnel Officer Brian Vetrano updated members of the school board with hiring numbers in preparation for the upcoming school year, which begins for students on Aug. 24.
“This summer the human resources department has continued efforts to recruit the most talented and qualified candidates for our schools,” he said.
Vetrano reported 170 teachers and support staff have been hired with just 79 teaching vacancies left to be filled. He noted his office is making steady progress filling those vacancies and assured board members any open positions would be backfilled by retired teachers or certified substitute teachers by the first day of school.
