The Smithfield Police Department has named Officer Sean Cook as their Officer of the Year for 2019. Officer Cook was recognized by the police department and the Smithfield Town Council earlier this month.
Officer Cook was selected for the award by a vote of his fellow officers and supervisors. He also received the Officer of the Year Award in 2014. He has been with the department for seven years.
“Officer Cook is a hard working officer and a valuable asset to the Department and the Town,” Smithfield Police Chief Keith Powell said. “Officer Cook has been working at the Neuse Charter School as a School Resource Officer. Officer Cook is well liked by the students and facility at the school. He has worked hard to change the opinions about police officers with the youth at the school.”
Before becoming a School Resource Officer, Cook worked in the patrol division and also served as a field training officer.
Fellow officers say he is always willing to go above and beyond in the performance of his duties.
