Search Continues For Person Who Placed 911 Call

WAYNE COUNTY – Wayne County authorities are working to locate a person who made a 911 call. Around 4:48 pm Thursday, Wayne County 911 received an emergency call from what sounded like a child in distress.

The caller did not provide a location, but the 911 center was able to map the call to an area near the Duke Energy Power Plant on Old Smithfield Highway.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Arr-Mac Search and Rescue Team responded to the area and began a search. After a thorough search using multiple resources, including digital phone technology, no signs of anyone in distress have been found.

Officials said the incident remains under investigation.
