Search Underway For Driver Who Intentionally Rammed Deputy

Authorities are searching for the driver of a stolen vehicle that rammed a Johnston County deputy during a pursuit Tuesday night.

Around 7:15pm, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible stolen vehicle on Highway 42 west of Clayton near Interstate 40. The officer located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over.

However, the driver sped away, striking another vehicle then intentionally ramming into the deputy’s cruiser.  The man then fled on foot.

Johnston and Wake county deputies along with NC Highway Patrol troopers attempted to located the suspect but he got away. However, he has been identified as Jody Marshall Spurling.   Once located, Spurling will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.

Authorities said Spurling is from out of state and has no known local address.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office at 919-989-5000.
