Second Arrest Made In Four Oaks Drug Investigation

FOUR OAKS – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has announced a second arrest in a drug investigation.

Emily Marie McNeal, age 33, of Old School Road, Four Oaks was arrested August 23 and charged with four counts of trafficking marijuana, and single counts of conspiracy to sell/deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance.

On August 21, a deputy sheriff stopped a car reportedly driven by Melvin Garrett Benton of Old School Road. Inside the vehicle, officers reportedly found 30 pounds of marijuana concealed inside a crate.

Officers later searched Benton’s home and reportedly found an additional pound of marijuana and approximately $25,000 in cash.

Both Benton and McNeal were held under $150,000 bonds at the Johnston County Detention Center.

  1. Isn’t there something a little more serious out there LE could be doing other than locking up people for “trafficking” a substance that is legal in multiple states around the country. I’m all for getting the REAL and harmful poisons off the streets, fentanyl, cocaine, meth, etc. but weed… really?
