Second Murder Suspect In Custody

Selma Police have announced the arrest of a second suspect in the shooting death of 47 year-old Michael John Boyle Jr. of Charlotte. Boyle was shot and killed inside his pickup truck on Highway 301 at Poole Drive around 11:00pm on January 7th.

Daniel Antonio Surles, 30, who has addresses in Clayton and Smithfield, was apprehended Tuesday by Raleigh Police inside a room at the Red Roof Inn. Surles was arrested without incident.

On February 3rd, Sammy Gonzalez Jr., 30, of Smithfield was arrested by Smithfield and Selma police officers at a residence in the Smithfield city limits. 

Selma Police and the NC SBI are still searching for the third suspect, Gilbert Lee King Jr., 25, of Hawkins Road, Selma.  King is 5 foot 8, 145 pounds with short hair and a tattoo of “Prissla” on his wrist. 

Police have not ruled out King may be operating a dark silver metallic 2008 Chevy Impala, with a partial black front bumper and missing hubcaps, and NC license plate HJH-8157. King is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Police detectives have not released a motive.
