Smithfield Police are investigating the second restaurant robbery within a week but say they have no evidence linking the two crimes.
As employees for Smithfield Chicken N BBQ, located at 924 North Brightleaf Boulevard, were closing for the night on Saturday, a lone black male armed with a handgun took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot, according to Police Captain T.S. Choe.
On July 5, as employees at Checker’s, located at 1691 East Market Street, were closing for the night, a lone black male armed with a gun entered through the drive through window, held one employee at gunpoint while forcing the manager to hand over an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then fled on foot.
Captain Choe said police do not think the incidents are connected. Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact the Smithfield Police Tip Line at 919-989-8835.
