Second Suspicious Apartment Fire Under Investigation

The Clayton Fire Department is investigating a suspicious, non-storm related fire at a vacant apartment unit at 1015 South Lombard Street.

Around 3:30 Saturday morning, the Clayton and Cleveland Fire Departments responded to the structure fire and found flames shooting from the roof of one of the units. No one was injured.

Clayton Police Department and Johnston County Emergency Services also responded. Firefighters were able to put out the fire and keep other units from burning.

The units did not have power and appears suspicious.

This isn’t the first fire at the same address. On May 18th, the same row of one-floor apartment units caught fire in the middle of the night. No one was injured but several vacant units had heavy damage.  The apartments are across the street from West Clayton Elementary School.  Photos courtesy JoCoFire.com
