Second Victim Dies From I-95 Car Crash

The NC Highway Patrol announced Monday afternoon a second victim has died as a result of injuries sustained in a single car crash on Interstate 95 in Johnston County on Sunday.

The wreck was reported at 3:52am on the northbound side of I-95 at the 83 mile marker between Four Oaks and Benson.

According to the NC Highway Patrol, a silver 1997 Honda Accord was traveling northbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right and struck a large tree and fence before coming to rest facing northbound.

The driver, identified as Marquise Richmond, was ejected and found lying unresponsive near the wreckage.  Trooper M.A. Samoksy was among the first to arrive on the scene. He started CPR on the victim.  Richmond was rushed to Wake Medical Center but died Monday in the hospital as a result of his injuries.

A passenger, 24 year-old Devante Mims of Alamance County was found unresponsive in the front passenger area. He was pronounced dead a short time after the crash.

Troopers say it does not appear the two victims were wearing seat belts.  Photos by John Payne
