A former employee at a Benson business is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars.
Monica Marie Butts, 35, of Sheffield Drive, Four Oaks had been a secretary at Scott Betts & Sons Inc. on McGee Road since May 2015.
The owner of the company contacted law enforcement officers last week after discovering $7,207.81 in unauthorized charges on a First Citizens credit card. Joseph Scott Betts reportedly told officers Butts was the only person who had access to the credit card.
Butts allegedly confessed to the theft buying personal items with the company’s credit card.
She was charged with larceny by an employee, attempting to obtain property by false pretenses and financial card fraud. Butts was placed in the Johnston County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
