Police are looking for a burglary suspect who assaulted a security guard at a Smithfield business.
Early Monday morning, a security guard at Carolina Packers at 2999 South Brightleaf Boulevard spotted a burglar leaving a building. The guard approached the intruder only to be assaulted. The suspect fled on foot. The guards injuries were minor.
Smithfield Police are also investigating a break-in discovered around 5:45am Saturday at the Murphy Express at 1234 North Brightleaf Boulevard. Someone broke into the convenience store taking $1,161.04 in Newport cigarettes and $24.95 in Deer Park bottled water.
