The Selma Town Council selected a local firm to renovate the former First Citizens Bank building downtown as their new town hall.
Seven companies submitted bids for the renovation project. Vortex Construction Company LLC of Selma was the low bidder at $362,547. The bid includes a $3,198 option for a new ground site at the town hall, if desired by the council. The next closest bid was nearly $60,000 higher.
The council voted unanimously to hire Vortex as the general contractor for the project.
In a related matter, the council approved financing the project with BB&T Bank, which submitted an interest rate of 2.96% over a 15-year period. The bank will charge a one-time $1,900 loan origination fee. Four Oaks Bank and KS Bank had also bid on the loan.
The town must receive approval from the Local Government Commission in July before the project can move forward. Town Manager Jon Barlow estimates construction will take 150 days once work begins.
