On Friday, the Town of Selma announced the hiring of a new town manager. Following an extensive search, Elton Daniels the current Assistant County Manager for Franklin County was named the new manager. He will replace retiring manager Jon Barlow.
Daniels first day on the job in Selma will be August 28th.
Mr. Daniels has a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. He received the 2016 UNC-W MPA Alumnus of the Year Award. He is a member of the International City Manager Association and serves on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina City/County Managers Association.
Daniels and his wife, Michelle, will be moving to Selma.
He is described as a well-respected and energetic leader. Town officials say he is eager to use his skills and expertise to make a positive difference in Selma.
Prior to becoming the assistant county manager for Franklin County in 2014, Daniels had been the town manager in Sharpsburg since 2011. Prior to working in Sharpsburg, he was a Management Advisor, through the UNC and Appalachian State’s Local Government Service Corp, for the Towns of Bolton, Navassa and Northwest, NC. He also served as a magistrate judge in Brunswick County for the NC Office of the Courts.
The last day on the job for outgoing town manager Jon Barlow is August 31st. He has been with the Town of Selma since January 2014.
