Selma Police Chief Richard Cooper and Captain Billy Thomas attended the July 14th Selma Town Council Meeting to be recognized by the NC Department of Transportation Rail Division. The Selma Police Department received a certificate for their hard work promoting the NCDOT ‘Be Rail Safe’ Program.

Many law enforcement agencies including the Smithfield Police Department, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, and NC Highway Patrol, have adopted the idea of promoting safe railroad crossing. Selma is specifically applauded for their work with International Level Crossing Awareness Day on June 3rd.

Officials were able to distribute over six hundred brochures to motorists at rail crossings in Smithfield and Selma on June 3rd. The event was cut short due to inclement weather conditions.
