Selma Railroad Days 5K Celebrates 50 Years This September

SELMA, N.C. — One of North Carolina’s oldest and most recognizable road races will mark a major milestone this fall as the 50th Annual Boys & Girls Club/Selma Railroad Days 5K returns to downtown Selma on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Recognized as North Carolina’s longest-running 5K race, the Selma Railroad Days 5K has been a community tradition for five decades, attracting competitive runners seeking personal bests, first-time participants, walkers and families looking to enjoy a morning together.

The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages, and well-behaved pets are also welcome to participate.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County, helping fund after-school programs, mentoring, academic support and other services for local youth.

Organizers say the race has grown into much more than a sporting event over the past 50 years.

“For 50 years, it has brought our community together while helping support programs that make a lasting impact on the lives of young people throughout Johnston County,” organizers said in a news release.

Businesses and community organizations are also being invited to support the event through sponsorships as organizers celebrate the race’s golden anniversary.

The race will be held in downtown Selma on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 8:30 a.m., with all proceeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Johnston County.
