Selma Town Council Approves Code Enforcement “Grace Period”

SELMA, NC – The Town of Selma Town Council has approved an alternative dispute resolution, or “Grace Period,” related to Board of Adjustment action fees, specifically for appealing Code Enforcement Violations received prior to January 1, 2026. All Code Enforcement violations during the described timeframe are eligible except those regarding sanitation and/or vegetation.

Any resident seeking to participate in this alternative dispute resolution, or “Grace Period,” must notify the Town in writing no later than April 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM. The fee to participate is $100.00 and must be submitted along with the written notification.

A Dispute Resolution Committee has been established by the Selma Town Council to discuss, and potentially agree upon, an established plan with the appellant to bring the subject property into compliance. If resolution efforts are successful and a compliance plan is established, then the Committee is authorized and empowered to enter into an agreement with a Grace Period appellant by a majority decision.

The Dispute Resolution Committee will make a report to the Board of Adjustment on May 15, 2026, to confirm if the participants have brought the subject properties into compliance with the Town Ordinance as specified in the agreements.

All properties successfully brought into compliance by agreement with the Committee shall be eligible for a waiver of the code enforcement violations and penalties contemplated by the Grace Period appeal.

This waiver does not extend to any code enforcement violations not contemplated within the Grace Period appeals, or violations/penalties incurred January 1, 2026, or after.
