Selma Town Council Approves New Contract For Town Manager

SELMA – The Selma Town Council has formally approved a new employment contract for Town Manager Alexis Carter, increasing her salary and outlining new benefits following the completion of her six-month probationary period.

Carter, who was hired on January 31, 2025, with a starting salary of $90,000, will see her annual base salary rise to $120,000 under the newly approved agreement. The contract was adopted on August 12, 2025, and will take effect September 1, 2025, running through August 31, 2026. The contract will automatically renew for one year unless either party gives 60 days’ advance notice.

In addition to the salary increase, Carter will receive a $400 monthly vehicle stipend for the use of her personal car for town business. The contract also provides for a grant of up to $4,000 to cover expenses related to taking the February 2026 North Carolina Bar Exam. This grant includes a three-year reimbursement clause, requiring Carter to repay the funds if she leaves the position before that period ends.

Under the terms of the agreement, residency within the Town of Selma is not required. Should the town terminate Carter’s employment without cause, and if she does not resign, she will be entitled to a severance package equal to six months’ salary.

Prior to her role in Selma, Carter served as Assistant Town Manager for Princeville, N.C.
