Semi Truck Fire Causes Extensive Damage

KENLY – A Missouri based driver of a truck tractor glanced out the window of the Pilot Truck Stop to see his truck was on fire and quickly alerted store personnel.

An attendant quickly hit the emergency shutoff switch to stop all fuel from flowing and yelled, “Someone call 911!”

Before firefighters could arrive, flames engulfed the newer model semi truck and flames wrapped around the roof of the diesel fuel island at the popular Truck Stop Road truck stop near Kenly.

The Johnston County Building Inspector’s office condemned the damaged fuel island with its charred wiring and destroyed pumps.

  1. With the fire coming from the sleeper/cab and charred spots showing in the first picture being on the sleeper, I’d say the fire started either by a wiring issue for the bunk controls (inverter, A/C, etc) or an APU (auxiliary power unit) powering the sleeper. Wonder if it was caused by a bad install at a dealership, shop, or overly-ambitious DIYer.

  2. Wow, thank God the truck stop operator hit the cut off or things could have gotten worse than they were. Also thank God for no injuries.
