Witnesses said a Jeep reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck in the side by a minivan around 4:30pm at the intersection of Little Creek Church Road and Steel Bridge Road southwest of Clayton. One of the vehicles overturned off the roadway.
The Wilson’s Mills Fire Department had to extricate the driver and two young passengers from the Jeep before they could be treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to the hospital.
A neighbor said serious accidents at the rural intersection are a common occurrence. The man said there have been numerous wrecks over the years but the Department of Transportation “won’t do anything about it.” The man said he routinely clear debris from his yard from wrecked vehicles.
The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. As of Wednesday, troopers had not released any information. Photos by John Payne
