Serious Crash Knocks Out Power To 1,900 Homes

A serious accident caused a widespread power outage Saturday evening for much of eastern Johnston County.  Around 7:00 PM, a pickup truck ran off Princeton-Kenly Road outside of Kenly and overturned striking a utility pole.

The driver was trapped in the wreckage for about an hour before being cut free by personnel from the Kenly Fire Department. Emergency workers had a difficult time stabilizing the heavily damaged pole while working to free the trapped driver.

A Life Flight helicopter landed near the scene and rushed the victim to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.  The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the single vehicle accident.

The wreck caused a power outage that lasted for nearly three hours for approximately 1,900 homes between Kenly, Micro, Pine Level and Princeton. Photos by John Payne
