A serious accident on Interstate 95 near Dunn backed up traffic for nearly 8 miles Friday before the roadway was reopened.
It happened in the southbound lanes near the 73 mile marker in Harnett County. One person was extricated from a vehicle before being airlifted from the scene by a Duke Life Flight helicopter.
The collision occurred in the southbound lanes. At one point, traffic was backed up to the I-40 / I-95 interchange (81 mile marker) north of Benson in Johnston County. Northbound lanes were closed while the air ambulance was on the scene.
