A Kenly man has been arrested on allegations he abducted and attempted to rape a woman.
The incident happened around 10:30am on Saturday, August 20th.
That’s when the victim said she was walking on Highway 581 in northern Wayne County near NorAm Road when a man stopped and offered his assistance.
The suspect allowed the woman to use his cell phone to call someone to pick her up. After placing the call the man, later identified as 30 year-old Aaron Blake Mills, offered to take the woman to a safe location.
Instead Mills drove her to a remote area and physically assaulted the victim. Mills allegedly tried to sexually assault the victim but she managed to talk him out of the sexual act. Mills released the woman and she contacted authorities. Investigators said Mills provided the victim with a false name.
On Tuesday, he was charged by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office with attempted second-degree forcible rape and kidnapping. At last report he was in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $300,000 bond.
Authorities said Mills is a registered sex offender. According to an internet search, Mills was convicted in 2004 for kidnapping a minor.
