Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell has donated five surplus metal detectors to Johnston County Public Schools.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office recently replaced five metal detectors at the Courthouse in Smithfield with new detectors to meet updated regulatory compliance.

County commissioners approved a request by Sheriff Bizzell to donate all five surplus metal detectors recently taken out of service to the school system for their use.

Superintendent Dr. Eric Bracy told The Johnston County Report,  “Johnston County Public Schools is thankful for our working relationship with Johnston County Commissioners and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office as well for this generous donation. At this time, the donated metal detectors will be used to increase security at district athletic events as needed.”

Sheriff Bizzell said, “I am honored to be in a position as sheriff to partner with our county commissioners in donating equipment that can continue to be used in our school system to promote and provide public safety at our schools and school events.”

  1. That’s awesome, Thank You Steve but, it’s a sad day when our kids have to go thru a medal detector before entering their school. Again, Thank You Sheriff Bizzell.

    • BWW, it seems that you didn’t read the entire article. These metal detectors are going to be used for athletic events.
