Sheriff’s Office: Stolen Vehicle Used In Fuel Theft

KENLY — A Selma woman faces felony and misdemeanor charges after deputies said she was found driving a stolen vehicle shortly after a larceny at a Johnston County construction site.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted around 5:47 p.m. Jan. 23 to a reported larceny at a construction site on Moore Road near Kenly.

Kelly Hartley, 44, of Batten Farm Road allegedly stole approximately $100 worth of diesel fuel from the jobsite before fleeing the area in a white Audi passenger car.

A deputy responding to the call located the vehicle nearby and made contact with Hartley, authorities said.

Deputies determined the Audi had been reported stolen to the Wilson Police Department in October 2025. The stolen diesel fuel was found in containers inside the vehicle, according to authorities.

Hartley was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny. Bail was set at $7,500.
