An autopsy will be performed on a 21 year-old man who was shot to death on Tuesday.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 1:33pm reporting an accidental shooting on Slapout Road, Mt. Olive.
Deputies and EMS personnel responded to the scene while the 911 caller remained on the phone with the dispatcher. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, Brantley Daniel Best, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Best was rushed to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A friend of the victim was transported to the sheriff’s office for questioning. After the interview, the individual left with his parents.
The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. Captain Shawn Harris said those details will be released at a later date.
