SMITHFIELD – Sunday morning, local law enforcement officers paired up with 51 needy children for the annual FOP Cops & Kids event at Walmart in Smithfield.
The heartwarming event provided toys and gifts to children and their families who otherwise would be without Christmas presents.
The event was organized by Johnston County FOP Lodge 88. FOP members raised funds throughout the year from the public and sponsors.
Officers from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Smithfield Police, Clayton Police, Johnston County ABC and NC DMV License & Theft were assisted by volunteers from the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield, Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church, and Delta Waterfowl.
Walmart hosted the event and provided refreshments.
It was difficult to tell if the cops or children had the most fun.
The annual event helps underprivileged children while helping create a bond and positive interaction between law enforcement officers and youth.
My hat is off to all the LEOs involved. Every year this touches my heart.
