CLAYTON – The search continues for a suspect who allegedly threatened to shoot employees at a Food Lion supermarket in Johnston County then led officers on a three county chase. It started around 10:50pm Wednesday at Food Lion on Neuse River Parkway off NC Highway 42 East of Clayton.
Employees reportedly tried to stop an unknown man as he exited the business. He was suspected of shoplifting about $100 in grocery items. Just outside the store entrance, the man threatened to shoot the Food Lion employees. No weapon was displayed.
The man got into a Ford Taurus and sped away on Highway 42 towards Clayton. A responding Johnston County deputy sheriff spotted the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. However, the suspect failed to pull over.
Deputies chased the suspect into Wake County reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour on Interstate 40. Near Raleigh, a sheriff’s office supervisor called off the pursuit. State troopers attempted to stop the vehicle in Wake County and pursued the driver into Durham County but they also called off the chase.
Authorities are still working to identify the suspect. No injuries were reported.
So no description of the suspect? That’s weird….
