Shoplifting Suspect Arrested Following Foot Chase

SMITHFIELD – Smithfield Police arrested a Robeson County man on several charges following a shoplifting incident. Officers were dispatched around 6:07pm Sunday to the Nike Factory Store on Outlet Center Drive.

Police allege Anthony Jerome Breeden Jr., age 26, of Lumberton, NC left the store without paying for approximately $1,329 in clothing. An officer located Breeden in the parking lot. He reportedly tried to flee on foot but was apprehended.

Breeden was charged with felony larceny, felony conspiracy, and resist delay and obstruct. He was also served with outstanding warrants from Robeson County for driving while impaired and simple possession of a controlled substance.

Breeden was given a $20,000 bond on the charges in Johnston County plus an additional $10,500 bond for the arrest warrants from Robeson County. The stolen items were recovered.

Police said the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
